 ver
the past 30 years, I have developed the skills and discovered the joy of becoming
a teaching artist. I am thankful for this extraordinary gift, which I received
mostly from my students. When I first started teaching transparent watercolor,
I concentrated primarily on the act of getting paint on the paper, and expounded
on the basic techniques of watercolor and the principals of art. Believing that,
first you must master the keyboard before the great novel became a possibility.
Now
my focus is on the creative experience, and the synergistic relationship that
evolves between the student, teacher, and the group. Finding
your creative self is not always easy. There are as many reasons as individuals
that we do not make a creative connection daily. But, there are many more reasons
why we should. Developing your creative self you start a spiritual and artistic
journey which gives you a sense of personal stisfaction and accomplishment. You
see the world differently when you leave behind your inhabitations and discover
the creative strength and wonderment that exists within us all. Today,
I realize returning to the basics is where we get started. This is the simplest
and most direct path to the door. That opening, if you will, that leads us to
"The Rabbit Hole" of our creative self. It is my thrill as a teacher
to show you the way and help you find "the artistic self" that is in
us all. Many
accomplished artist believe when they enter into a creative state, their inspiration
is guided by someone other than themselves. Watercolor
is the most natural medium for this journey. It offers you a fluid, spontaneous,
uncontrollable result, which creates effects; you could never achieved on your
own. I find working with watercolor in a group is the most powerful format
for success. We draw so much positive energy and inspiration from the each other
that the learning experience is greatly enriched. By surrounding our selves
with the magical beauty of San Miguel, and the creative energy of the group, this
amazing connection can and will become a reality. This synergistic experience
will take us far past the sum of the two artists, or even the group. You will
find yourself reaching new artistic high's that you never dreamed possible. When
you make this creative connection it is an indiscernible gift a feeling of clarity,
exhilaration, wonderment, and freedom.
