WET & WET DEMONSTRATION "SADDLES" 20"x26" |
|
|
I draw my subject on a sheet of dry #140lb cold press Saunders Watercolor Paper.
Soak the paper on both sides until completely saturated, centere it on the Boga Board ready to be secured later.
The Underpainting is the most important part of this painting.
Using a" desert triad" of Aureolin Yellow, Indian Red, and Cerulean Blue, I randomly pour and splash these colors over the wet paper.
Now rock the paper back and forth until the colors blend and mix together and all excess water has been drained away. If necessary use your spray bottle to prevent hard edges from forming.

Do not use a brush, let the colors blend together randomly.
While still wet use a tooth brush to spatter on texture of darker colors and Quinacridome Gold.
Insert the Boga wedges and speed dry the paper with a hair dryer completely. |
 |
Working on the dry paper with the same triad plus Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna start building the details and the darks being careful to leave some random whites.
Paint the saddles, door, tile roof, ground and foliage.

Finished Painting.
Use your working mat to study your painting. Make necessary adjustments to the value in your subject. Bring your corners down in value with a cool wash and add the details of rope and leaves.
