About Gayle

Born in Ogden Utah, Gayle moved with her family to Lyle, Washington in the 60s. Growing up on a ranch which overlooked Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, she developed a deep love for country life, and the beautiful scenery of the area. Her paintings capture the feel of the northwest with a fresh direct wet in wet technique, strong design and bold value patterns.

Gayle considers herself to be a realistic landscape painter. Although she works primarily in transparent watercolor, Gayle does not necessarily limit herself to only one medium or style, but rather allows her subject matter to inspire and dictate her choice of medium and technique.

Watercolor has always played a big part in Gayle's life. At a very early age she discovered that painting in watercolor came naturally for her, and it has been her passion every since.

Gayle attended the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After college she spent the next year touring Europe on a motor scooter. There, she continued to paint while having an opportunity to study the art and architecture of the great masters. Gayle continues her education each year, and she tries to attend just as many workshops as she teaches, learning from some of the top watercolor artists in the country. Gayle is a student of life and also describes herself as a designer, teacher, watercolor artist, and student.

She views mastering transparent watercolor technique as a life long quest, Gayle is continuously growing and evolving as an artist. The transparent watercolor process is always stimulating and exciting to her, and you can see by Gayle’s paintings the results can be also. Gayle designed and patented the Boga Board, a watercolor paper stretcher for artist. Art has always been the base of her life, whether she is designing houses, restaurants, theaters, menus, graphics, or marketing the Boga Board. No matter what project occupies Gayle’s attention, she always knows that her true love is watercolor.

Gayle is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and is a charter member of the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society.
